YOU Can Save the Shoreline!

Well, shell-o there, Earth Rangers! Welcome to the shoreline! I’m your tour guide – or, should I say, ‘turtle guide,’ Tallie.

In case you didn’t know, I’m a Blanding’s turtle. Turtles like me live in ponds and shallow lakes and, honestly, I LOVE my life in the water…well, mostly. There are just a few minor problems. I’m hoping you can help me tell your fellow land-dwellers about the troubles we turtles are facing, because we turtally…I mean, totally, need your help.

The main problem is pollution – garbage that clogs up our shorelines can hurt the wildlife that lives there. Some animals might mistake trash for food, for instance. And not only that, but if garbage smells like food it’s even more tempting. Eating litter can make animals really sick. And some pieces of trash are so easy to get tangled up in (think strings and plastic bags), which causes animals to get hurt.

I know what you’re thinking: what’s a helpful Earth Ranger to do? Simple! Just join the Shoreline Saver Mission and get ready to clean up a shoreline near you. Whether you live near a pond, a lake, or an ocean, the animals that live in that habitat will be super-grateful for your help!

Gather up some friends, a grown-up or two, some garbage bags and gloves, and see how much trash you can collect. And be sure to let everyone know all about your terrific work in the app. With your help, a clean shoreline will be mission accomplished!
