Have you ever wondered what a day in the life of a harbor seal veterinarian looks like? How fast, and how far, does the average seal swim in a day? Why is it important for us to keep shorelines clean for these adorable creatures?
This week, on the Wild Wire blog, the experts at The Marine Mammal Center are here to answer all your burning questions! Every year, they rescue and rehabilitate hundreds of marine mammals, including harbor seals, sea lions, and otters. They care for these animals until they’re healthy enough to return to the ocean safely. Since they were founded in 1975, they’ve rescued more than 24,000 animals!
This is your chance to ask the scientists and veterinarians at The Marine Mammal Center anything you want to know about harbor seals, shoreline clean-ups, and how you can be a Wildlife Hero for marine mammals in need. Comment on this article with your questions, and we’ll send them off to The Marine Mammal Center so they can answer some of their favorites. Stay tuned on the Wild Wire blog for their responses–and more chances to ask our researchers questions!
In the meantime, head to the Adoptions section in the Earth Rangers App to accept the Shoreline Saver mission! When you successfully complete the mission, you’ll receive a free digital harbor seal adoption kit courtesy of our friends at Dawn! Plus, Dawn will donate $5 to The Marine Mammal Center to help them continue their invaluable work.
