At Earth Rangers, we think pollinators are the BEE’S KNEES! They do so much for us and the planet. They help our plants grow and keep our ecosystems healthy. Without them, we wouldn’t have a lot of the fruits and veggies we love.
So how can we thank them for all their hard work? With the Pollinator Power Mission, of course! And that’s exactly what we did at the Earth Rangers Centre (ERC) this summer.
We grabbed our gardening gloves, shovels and sunhats, and put together the best pollinator garden EVER! But we didn’t do it alone. We had some very handy helpers.
They came, they saw, and they helped build our new-and-improved pollinator garden! We recently had our Project Forward event with Tangerine, right here in our own backyard. Rangers of all ages gathered ’round to learn all about pollinators and help plant our pollinator garden!
Pollinators of all kinds were buzzing and fluttering around as our Rangers explored the ERC grounds. They spotted loads of bees and butterflies. Plus, they found lots of pollinator-friendly flowers, like milkweed, bee balm, and cup plants. Native flowers like these are really good for pollinators. They look and smell familiar, and they’re a great place for them to call home and to reproduce.
Once our new garden beds were filled up with soil, our Rangers got to plant more native wildflowers like echinacea, black-eyed Susans, and coreopsis! To top it all off, Rangers got to stamp their handprint along the sides of the new garden beds.
After our pollinating pals were taken care of, we still had a few more friends in mind: our Animal Ambassadors! They love snacking on veggies like peas, squash, eggplant, and zucchini… So we planted seeds so we can harvest them right here at the ERC—there’s nothing like locally-grown produce, am I right? Placing the vegetable plants near our flowers will help make sure the veggies get enough pollination, too. Lots of pollination is the key to growing good food, after all!
We love seeing our Earth Rangers in action! It was an incredible day filled with planting, learning, and smiles. We can’t wait to see all the pollinators that come to visit their new oasis!
Have you ever planted a pollinator garden? How about a veggie garden? We want to know what you’ve planted!
We hope our pollinator garden has inspired you to build you own! Check out the Pollinator Power Mission in the Earth Rangers App to find out more about pollinators and how you can help protect them!
