How to make your animal ears!

Did You Know?

  • Raccoons are masked critters that roam woodland habitats as well as suburban and urban areas.
  • They are nocturnal, which means they are active at night - for this reason, they have excellent night vision and can see in the dark!
  • These mischievous creatures are excellent climbers and can get into just about anything - this includes bins you thought were raccoon-proof hehe!
  • Although raccoons are very adaptable animals, the urban environment is not the ideal habitat. Within urban and suburban areas, raccoons are under threat from contaminants and excessive litter within their habitats, as well as road hazards.

Take Action to Protect Raccoons

Protect raccoons by making sure that you rinse all your recycling and garbage before putting it outside. Make sure that the lids on your bins are extremely secure; raccoons are excellent at sneaking into bins that you thought were raccoon proof!

By completing ‘Eco Activity #10:  Timed trash pickup’, you can help keep litter away from wild animals, like the raccoon!  Rummaging through human garbage and eating scraps is not healthy for raccoons and definitely does not match their natural diet.

If you would like to take your action a step further, become an Earth Ranger to access the Food Waste Warriors Mission! This Mission works at addressing food waste and all the problems that come with it!  Producing food takes A LOT of energy to begin with - what’s worse is that when food is wasted and sent to the landfill, it breaks down and releases harmful greenhouse gases, like methane, which contributes to climate change!  By completing this mission you will be able to increase your awareness about the food waste your family generates and try to make a change for the better!  Not only that, but you help to keep wild animals, like raccoons, from getting into food that is not healthy for them.
