  • Lynx are classified as wildcats and live in boreal forests across North America
  • They have a thick fur coat to keep them warm and HUGE paws that act like snowshoes to help them walk in the deep snow!
  • Lynx are known to be very stealthy hunters - they hunt alone, are mostly nocturnal and they can use their whiskers to sense prey when hunting in the dark.
  • Like many other animals, lynx are most threatened by habitat loss and climate change, since its habitats are located in the northernmost regions of the boreal forest. In fact, there are various types of lynx that are endangered in different regions of the world.

Take Action to Protect Lynx

The best way to help Lynx is to conserve their natural habitat - this means protecting natural areas like forests from development. Lynx require a large area of undeveloped space in order to thrive. Maintaining and protecting undisturbed ecosystems is crucial to protecting Lynx.

By completing ‘Eco Activity #128:  Forest In a Jar’, you can build your own ecosystem suitable for a Lynx! This activity encourages you to build your own terrarium with items you find in a nearby forest! This self-sustaining ecosystem in a jar will give you a good look at the ins and outs of life in a forest.
